Lexus ES: Initialization

INITIALIZATION

INITIALIZE SLIDING ROOF SYSTEM

NOTICE:

  • When the sliding roof glass sub-assembly or sliding roof drive cable sub-assembly is adjusted or removed/installed, or the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly is replaced, the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly) must be initialized to store the position of the sliding roof. If initialization is not performed, the auto operation function, jam protection function, key-off operation function, key-linked function, wireless transmitter-linked function and sliding roof open warning function may not operate, or the sliding roof may move in reverse or become misaligned.
  • During initialization, do not subject the vehicle to physical shock, such as opening/closing a door or driving the vehicle at 5 km/h (3 mph) or more, and do not perform any electrical operations.
  • Make sure not to turn the engine switch on (ACC) or off during initialization.
  • If the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly) has been replaced, DTC B2343 will be stored. Clear the DTC after performing initialization.

HINT:

  • The sliding roof switch is built into the map light sub-assembly.
  • It is not necessary to initialize the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly) if the cable has been disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal, or if the battery has been replaced.

(a) Perform initialization according to the table below.

Condition of Sliding Roof

Proceed to

Auto operation function does not operate.

Procedure A

Auto operation function operates, but the sliding roof does not stop at the correct position (misalignment occurs), or the sliding roof moves in the opposite direction during tilt down operation.

Procedure B

Auto operation function operates, but the sliding roof moves in the opposite direction during slide close operation.

Procedure C

(1) Procedure A

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
  2. Fully close the sliding roof and release the sliding roof switch (map light sub-assembly).*1
  3. Press and hold the CLOSE or UP switch.
  4. The sliding roof performs the following operations: tilt up → pause for 1 second → tilt down → slide open → slide closed.
  5. After the sliding roof stops in the fully closed position, release the switch.*2

    HINT:

The initialization process ends when this operation is complete.

  6. Make sure that the sliding roof auto operation function operates normally.

NOTICE:

Press and hold the CLOSE or UP switch until *2 is completed. If the switch is released before *2 is completed, repeat the operation from *1.

(2) Procedure B

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
  2. Press the UP switch to move the sliding roof to the fully tilted up position and then release the UP switch.

    HINT:

    • If the sliding roof cannot be fully tilted up due to misalignment of the sliding roof glass sub-assembly, press and hold the CLOSE switch until the sliding roof stops closing, and then press and hold the UP switch until the sliding roof stops tilting up.
    • If the sliding roof moves in the opposite direction while it is being closed, repeatedly tap the CLOSE switch at short intervals to fully close the sliding roof. When the sliding roof is fully closed, press the UP switch to move the sliding roof to the fully tilted up position.
  3. Press and hold the UP switch again until the sliding roof completes the following operations: pause for approximately 10 seconds or more → tilt inching motion → pause for 1 second → tilt down → slide open → slide closed.*1
  4. After the sliding roof stops in the fully closed position, release the switch.*2

    HINT:

The initialization process ends when this operation is complete.

  5. Make sure that the sliding roof auto operation function operates normally.

NOTICE:

  • Press and hold the UP switch until *2 is completed.
  • While performing *1, if the UP switch is released before "pause for approximately 10 seconds or more" completes, start this step over.
  • While performing *1, if the UP switch is released after "pause for approximately 10 seconds or more" completes, but before the above movements complete, perform procedure A to initialize the position of the sliding roof.

(3) Procedure C

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
  2. Press and hold the CLOSE switch until the sliding roof completes the following operations: slide closed → move in the opposite direction → pause for approximately 10 seconds or more → slide closed → tilt up → pause for 1 second → tilts down → slide open → slide closed.*1
  3. After the sliding roof stops in the fully closed position, release the switch.*2

    HINT:

The initialization process ends when this operation is complete.

  4. Make sure that the sliding roof auto operation function operates normally.

NOTICE:

  • Press and hold the CLOSE switch until *2 is completed.
  • While performing *1, if the CLOSE switch is released before "pause for approximately 10 seconds or more" completes, start this step over.
  • While performing *1, if the CLOSE switch is released after "pause for approximately 10 seconds or more" completes, but before the above movements complete, perform procedure A to initialize the position of the sliding roof.

DESCRIPTION The outer mirror switch assembly sends the mirror adjust switch signals to the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU). The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) then sends the received mirror adjust switch signals to each outer mirror control ECU assembly via CAN communication.
